A severely matted dog has a long road of recovery in front of her after being found stuck in a painful trap in Arizona.
The roughly 3-year-old mixed breed dog was brought in to the Valley Dogs Rescue, where an intricate process involving dematting and slicker brush freed the animal from its almost 3 pounds of matted hair.
Dr. Carr’s Pet Repair and his three technicians spent more than an hour cutting away the matted hair. Now, the dog is transformed into a sweet pup ready for a new home.
The dog who was later named “Hot Mess” had been caught in a trap when she was found and still had leftover pieces of the net in her matts. She weighs around 15 pounds and is believed to be part poodle or maltese.
Dr. Carr said: “Afterwards, she was scared, but she eventually let us touch her and even hold her.” “All she needed was some care and some love.”
She’s been vaccinated and is currently in foster care. She’ll be available for adoption soon.
Matting is a condition which occurs when a dog's fur becomes tangled and knotted around itself.
It is very painful for dogs and can lead to other health issues if not removed.
Severely matted dogs can also find it difficult to see or walk.
