A man has been admitted to Wrexham Maelor Hospital for checks after jumping into an icy lake to rescue a dog.
Briefing reporters Sunday evening, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 12.40pm on Sunday to Acton Park in Wrexham over a report that a dog had gone through the ice. He said: “A member of the public went to try and get the dog to rescue it.”
The fire service sent two crews from Wrexham but the 56-year-old man and the dog were already out of the water when they arrived. Firefighters gave first aid at the scene.
An ambulance was also sent to the park for him to be taken to the hospital. A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said it was informed of the incident just after 1pm.
The man's condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
