D ogs are too valuable to be neglected. Adequate care should be given to their diets. Your choice of dog food should be as important as the choice of food for any other living thing since a mistake can lead to stunted growth, food poisoning and death.

Choosing a good food in the midst of large dog food brands can be intimidating especially when you're doing it for the first time. This is normal when you consider the large number of dog food brands available in some retail outlets today.

To help you select a great brand for your dog, we've reviewed Binggo dog food brand since it's one of the best selling brands in Nigeria with a budget-friendly price and is available in many retail outlets as well as online stores. But bear in mind, the fact that a dog food brand is affordable, easy to get and used by many is no guarantee that it's the best. It's not even a testimony of its excellent quality but you can still rely on its popularity since if it's poisonous or unhealthy, no one would have bought them for their dogs.

What is Binggo Dog Food?

Binggo dog food is a soy-free and healthy dog food brand that's produced for smart dogs. It's a product of Grand Cereals, a subsidiary of UAC Nigeria Plc. The food has high protein contents though the sources of the recipes are unavailable on the dog food bags and the company's website. 

 Dog Food Varieties

Binggo brand comes with many distinct dry dog food varieties including the ones formulated specially for puppies. This review will focus only on Binggo Rice and Chicken for puppies and Binggo Chicken (formulated for adult dogs).

1. Binggo Rice and Chicken Formula For Puppies

This formula is excellent dog food for puppies since they need a higher protein diet to build strong bones, joints and muscles.
The formula is free from soy ingredients and features rice and chicken (animal protein) as the main ingredients with digestible whole grains and healthy fat for nutritional balance.

With a protein content of 33% and above, Binggo rice and chicken puppy food will give your puppies the energy and building blocks to grow and become active, strong and smart adult dogs. 

The food also contains crude fibre (5%) that makes the food highly digestible for your puppies and also act as a carbohydrate source, although it may also trigger food allergies. This is one of the reasons you're advised to blend the product over a period of 5-7 days until the previous food is completely replaced in order to reduce your dog's sensitivity to the ingredients.

The fat in the food gives it a good taste and also contains valuable nutrients such as Omega-3 that may be useful to your dogs.
They're also some supplementary recipes like antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids although their estimated values are unavailable on the bag.

2. Binggo Chicken Adult Dog Food

The binggo chicken adult dry dog food has a minimum of 20% protein, a maximum of 12% fat, 8% crude fibre, 8% ash, and 10% moisture. It is also packed with Omega-3, essential amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

This adult food can be considered as an average dry food for adult dogs when it's compared with other brands of dog food.

Is Binggo Food Expensive?

No, Binggo dog food brand is very affordable when compared to other brands like Diamond, Jo-jo, Taste of the wild and other foreign brands. Prices vary from one recipe to another, but the cost for 5kg bag of Binggo rice and chicken food is about N4500 to N6000, the 10kg is about N11,000 to N12,000 while the binggo chicken of 15kg goes for N19000 to N20000 depending on the retailer.

Cons

  • The products lack clear descriptions and sources of nutrients used in making the food. Omega-3, essential amino acids, minerals, vitamin premix, antioxidants; and no soy are too vague for a product that is fed to pets. 
  • Actual values of minerals, vitamins, omega-3, and antioxidants are unavailable on the dog food bags to help consumers in making informed decisions.  Units used in measuring them are not also stated leading to confusion on what to choose.

RECOMMENDATION

Binggo Rice and Chicken formula for puppies together with Binggo Chicken for adult dogs are suitable for puppies and adult dogs respectively. The recommendation is based on the experience of the author, high demand by pet parents and absence of product recalls by the company.
